Concepts for Nerdstudy's Macbeth 1
I created all the character art and the backgrounds in the last couple of scenes for Nerdstudy's Macbeth project. We created motion-comic style animations for educational purposes and I'm really proud of how our project turned out.
Here are some of the concept art pieces I created when we were fine-tuning the characters.
Macbeth Expressions and some head angles.
Macbeth's Hair: It was imperative to figure out the hair for Macbeth. Though there were some good options here, we chose to go with the traditional shoulder length hair.
Macbeth Attire: Different clothes to signify his status as he lies and cheats his way to power.
Macduff: Like ali vs frazier, I imagined Macbeth being tall and quick, while Macduff would be like an unstoppable tank. I gave him a mustache, heavy brow and roman nose to signify his resolve.
Witches Concepts: I had the idea to have the witches wearing animal skull masks. They're more decorative than real.
Various eye colours for the leader of the witches. I gave her a gorilla skull to show her strength, and frowned the brow to show calm.
Line art (tight) for the witches
Hecate: The God-Witch herself makes an appearance in Macbeth. She's usually drawn with 3 full heads, but I found a way to smash them together.
Macbeth's Goons: Black and Red are scary colours when combined. Macbeth's symbol when he takes the throne is simultaneously a sun and an eye to signify his tyranny.
Great Birnam Wood: Macbeth will only fall when the forest itself marches on his castle! I remembered the Lost Boys' armor in the movie Hook (1991) and experimented with the idea.
